About TCB

The Tyler Community Band is made up of business and medical professionals, teachers, music educators, retirees and advanced students.  These dedicated musicians share a common love of music.  They meet to bring free concerts of quality band music to the greater Tyler area.  While based in Tyler, its talented volunteer musicians hail from all over East Texas.  The band was formed in 1989 as music outreach of the University of Texas at Tyler.

TCB Mission

The Tyler Community Band (TCB) Mission is to provide an uplifting, aesthetic musical experience to both its volunteer members and its audience.  Quality, live performances presented free of charge fulfill this mission.  Regular concerts are held in a professional venue- the Cowan Performing Arts Center on the campus of The University of Texas at Tyler, as well as casual settings throughout the city.

TCB programs include core and contemporary works for the wind band, works by the great orchestral composers transcribed for band, patriotic music, lighter selections and music from films and Broadway shows.  No TCB program would be complete without music from the “golden age” of the concert band, with stirring marches by Sousa, Fillmore and King, just to name a few.

The Tyler Community Band is at the same time very much a 21st Century ensemble, using technology and the internet for communication within the band, as well as promoting the band to the community.  TCB honors the best of our musical heritage, while embracing the music and audiences of today and tomorrow.

The Tyler Community Band is supported by the University of Texas at Tyler.  It rehearses on Tuesday evenings in the Cowan Performing Arts Center on the UT Tyler campus.
